June 3rd, 2026, 7:30 pm – “Otto Moser’s Pub” presented by Christopher Roy
OTTO MOSER’S PUB on E. 4 th St. was far more than a tavern. It was also the go-to hangout for an astonishing number of Vaudevillians: actors, athletes, singers, dancers. magicians, and comedians who were appearing at one of Cleveland’s 60-plus theaters (that’s not a typo: At one time, some 5 dozen theaters operated in or near our city’s center).
During their visits, more than 650 of those celebrities left behind a (usually signed and sometimes dated) photograph of themselves. These images graced the pub’s walls and display cases for more than a century, mystifying thousands of patrons who wondered who these people were and what they meant to Cleveland’s entertainment history. Mr. Roy’s book, Mr. Moser’s Neighborhood: The intersection of Cleveland and Vaudeville is the never-before chronicled story of vaudeville’s heyday in Cleveland (roughly 1885-1930), told largely through profiles and photos of the myriad superstars who, photographically speaking, lived in Mr. Moser’s restaurant. It’s a light, non-fiction chronicle; a historical picture book; and a time machine through which readers can access period audio and video via QR links. Some copies will be available for sale.
